Episode 22: Indie Reflections

A Pause in Time

Some days, life demands a pause, not to stop, but to breathe, to listen. This 22nd episode of Le Salon Indie de Mitxoda feels like that: a suspended moment where every note carries a story, old and new, familiar and fresh. The journey begins with Alex Sitze, a self-produced gem from Wisconsin, echoing the existential pulse of Jean-Paul Sartre.

“There are loose thematic ties to Sartre’s Nausea. Each part recorded on live instruments. Entirely self-produced.”

A Powerful Return

From philosophical whispers to electronic echoes, we travel north. To Sweden, where Split Vision returns 40 years after their debut with House of Cards, lifted from their new album Echoes of a New Spell, released today.

Built with the same analog synthesizers that once defined an era, Yamaha CS-5, ARP 2600, Sequential Pro-One, the record nods to Depeche Mode’s Speak & Spell while staying firmly in the present.

On the Traces of Heritage

Back to France, where melody meets memory. Esteban The Late Artist invites us on a journey, Sur les Traces de ses Aïeux, a song full of melodic richness and that subtle frenchie britpop charm. A collaboration with Bribinvoile and Ze Scott, it feels like walking the corridors of ancestry guided by sound.

Invisible Fire

And then came my own voice, Mitxoda – SPA, Je Te Hais. A song born from anger, from exhaustion, from the invisible weight of ankylosing spondylitis.

It wasn’t planned for today. But sometimes, the body decides for you. This week, my spine locked. Fatigue spread. Meetings, rehearsals, the concert, all cancelled. This illness doesn’t ask for permission; it arrives uninvited. Still, music, always music, remains the cure, the scream, the solace.

Through the Shadows

You’ve probably read about them in my Mitxoda Weekly #53, the mysterious and magnetic duo, The Shadow’s Gone Out. Their track Pills drifted through the Salon, followed by Bruach’s stirring Ye Jacobites By Name, a voice from Scottish soil that still resonates today.

From Indonesia with Love

Ah, the joys of live broadcasting! Poor Walters Fall and his track In My Blood Now suffered from an early fade-out. Don’t worry, we’ll give it the full spotlight at the end.

In the meantime, we crossed oceans to Medan, Indonesia, where Silmi offered us Before the Time, a delicate gem from the compilation Home Listening Plaza. Atmospheric, reflective, and deeply human.

Smooth Turns & Indie Grooves

Next up, we had Chillin’ with their irresistible track My Next Mistake, followed by J&M Band and their playful Born Tiny Gig. Two tunes that remind us how good it feels to move, smile, and just let go.

Electric Spirits

Time to turn the energy back up with Gizmosophy and their vibrant track Ghost. Pulsing beats, driving riffs, and a cinematic edge, this one doesn’t drift, it charges forward. A perfect burst of energy to lift the room and keep your indie heart beating fast.

Voices of Strength

Before unveiling our big premieres, I had to share a voice that struck a chord: Emily E Finke with Daddy Was a Soldier. Her upcoming duo with Andy Smith (out October 16) promises even more magic. Stay tuned.

Two World Premieres

I promised you something special, and here they are! Two World Premieres that’ll make it impossible to stay seated. Even with a sore back, I couldn’t resist.

First, Ee:Man with Lost in Life, a stunning debut full of passion and drive. Then, Alix of Tomorrow with Alien, a captivating journey through space and emotion.

In My Blood Now (Full Version)

And as promised, here’s the complete version of Walters Fall’s In My Blood Now, eight minutes of pure, progressive storytelling from Ontario, Canada. Because every glitch deserves redemption.

Takeaway

Old and new. Seen and unseen. Heard and felt. Episode 22 was special, difficult but true.

Send me your new songs, your feedback, your kindness, every message is read, appreciated, and truly helps, especially on tough weeks. So… long live music, long live life, and take good care of yourselves. ❤️
