This week, I want to go on with my first EP, Prognosis. These six tracks marked a turning point for me as both a composer and a human being. Each song is a reflection of the chaos and inner turmoil I was experiencing at that time, and they represent my first true attempt to channel those emotions into music.
Prognosis explores the fragility of life and the fine line we walk between despair and hope. The atmosphere of the EP is both haunting and ethereal, with a mixture of ambient textures and raw melodies that guide you through different emotional landscapes.
I wanted the listener to feel the weight of every note, as though the music was speaking directly to the challenges we face as individuals. Themes like isolation, acceptance, and resilience come through in each track, not always with answers, but with the invitation to reflect.
One of the most unique aspects of this EP is the special collaboration I had with Caroline Dorian, whose voice brought a striking depth to the track La Chute. Her vocals added an element of grace and intensity that elevated the song’s emotional gravity. She managed to convey both strength and vulnerability in a way that still moves me every time I listen.
What also makes Prognosis truly special to me is the personal touch from my own family. My kids joined me on one of the tracks, providing a very unique and intimate backing vocal. It wasn’t planned to be perfect; rather, it was their natural voices, raw and unfiltered, that added a layer of authenticity. Their contribution, subtle but powerful, underscores the theme of innocence and resilience amidst the chaos.
As a huge fan of progressive rock, especially bands like Genesis, I wanted to create something that feels unusual to the ears, something unique, yet still deeply enjoyable. That spirit of experimentation guided me throughout the creation of Prognosis. Another influence was the brilliant album Heaven and Hell by Joe Jackson and his friends. One track features an intense two-drum fight, and I kept that in mind while composing Prognosis Part 2: La Quête. That rhythmic tension was something I wanted to bring into my own work, blending it with the atmospheric storytelling that drives the whole EP.
Prognosis is a deeply personal work, filled with imperfections that make it all the more human. It’s a collection of music that doesn’t just invite you to listen, but to feel every twist and turn of the emotional journey it takes you on. If you haven’t yet, I hope you’ll take the time to experience it with fresh ears and an open heart.
