Episode 32: A Week of Storms, A Night of Songs

After my usual Patience song, we open today’s session with intensity, Italian heavy metal, no less. Thunder Rising set the tone with The Prisoner, a guitar-driven ballad that holds nothing back. A fitting start for a week that has been… turbulent on my side too.

Between the emotional highs and lows, and the technical adventure of launching the brand-new upload tool on Mitxoda.be, this week has been quite a ride. So let’s lean in, breathe, and let the music take over.

Welcome.

The energy keeps climbing with a trio that refuses to sit still. The Steve Klatt Project offered a powerful remastered version of Dreams and Reality, bold, clean, confident. Right after, The Puncturists delivered the raw edge of 55, almost punk in its intent, and absolutely alive.

Then came a personal moment: a nod to my friend Gregg Oliver of Gizmosophy. Their long-form gem Tumble and Roll is the kind of piece you need to hear through to the very end, a full journey, no shortcuts.

From there, we drifted toward gentler landscapes. France brought us the delicate warmth of Tib’O, followed by the soulful elegance of Johanna Saint-Pierre. And then, a flight straight to New Zealand.

Vanessa Tottle’s Can I Go Now? carried the room effortlessly. Her voice, her presence, her message, a piece written for her mother-in-law, all came with a depth that stayed with me long after the track ended. I talk more about it in this week’s Mitxoda Weekly; you can always find everything at weekly.mitxoda.be.

You’ll also discover a long, immersive interview with American band The Flying Beets, written, as always, as if we were sitting together in a bar somewhere, which sadly wasn’t the case this time… but maybe someday.

Back to music. I introduced the opening track of my EP Prognosis, available on Bandcamp (and yes, it’s Bandcamp Friday today, you know what to do!).

Les Prémices du Désir isn’t just about impulses or longing. It’s about the deeper movements that push a human being to search for meaning, recognition, and fulfillment.

From there, we stepped into the forest with Messphodil’s mystical energy, then into transformation with Halovox’s First Bite, a song about giving yourself permission to evolve. To challenge assumptions. To refuse to be defined forever by your past.

And then… Eckotrigger. Blue Universe. That saxophone. I could loop it endlessly.

We closed on a beautiful surprise. My friend Joo Baldi brought us his latest single with Tamara Funck, followed by a stunning live performance from Tomken, Kalter Krieg, entirely in German, raw and exceptional.

And so here we are, at the end of Episode 32. To guide us into the weekend and carry us gently toward next week, and the upcoming Christmas special, here is Hideclose with the haunting Nocte mutamur.

See you soon.
