A Mask to Breathe Freely
Some songs are written like mirrors. Others, like keys. “Seconde Vie” is both, a reflection of what traps us, and a key to slip through the cracks of a rigid world that too often leaves no space for nuance, freedom, or quiet reinvention.
This song was born out of a need to escape. Not through denial or fantasy, but through the subtle dream of another version of self, lighter, freer, outside of the endless loop of expectations and judgment. A second life, in a way, where the rules would be suspended, and where it would finally be safe to think, feel, and speak without being labelled.
Through the motif of the mask, I’m not hiding, I’m breathing. It’s not about fiction; it’s about anonymity as liberation. A way to detach from what weighs us down. Behind this mask, there’s no pretending. On the contrary: it’s where I feel most sincere, most connected to my inner voice. Without the noise. Without the roles.
The sound of “Seconde Vie” reflects that fragile tension. There’s movement and melancholy, a desire to move forward while still being caught in what used to be. But the pulse is hopeful. It insists: we are not doomed to stay stuck. We can rewrite the narrative. We can, maybe, begin again.
Update: In a way, this track echoes many other Mitxoda pieces: the emotional dissonance of “No Rescue”, the silent rage of “SPA, Je Te Hais”, the poetic drift of “Time Drift”. But “Seconde Vie” dares to imagine what happens after. After the fall. After the pain. After the burnout.
It’s not a utopia. It’s a breath. A second wind. A second life, not perfect, but chosen.
If this song resonated with you, let me know. Every word shared is a step forward.
