Le Salon Indie de Mitxoda opened its doors again on June 13th, 2025. A quiet ritual, a sonic breath. A show that reminds us that sometimes the only way forward is to try, with no promise, no guarantee, but the thrill of a path unfolding under your feet.
This week’s lineup wove that idea into sound. From meditative instrumentals to explosive anthems, from intimate whispers to punk-fueled urgency, each track was a small act of courage, a choice to make something, to offer it to the world, and to trust someone would feel it.
Trying is Believing
It began as usual with Mitxoda’s own Patience, an instrumental lull of calm that sets the tone. Then came Laura Rickenbacker with Gillettes, a song you wish the world had already discovered, followed by Los Angeles-based band I and their 6-minute statement Try, released May 30th. With the repeated cry “let’s try,” the band pushes back against division, asking us to reconnect through vulnerability and effort.
Cowpunk, Ghosts and Raw Honesty
Next came two tight, fierce songs under three minutes. Canadian band The Ol’ Snake In the Grass offered their sharp The Devil Didn’t Want Me, and then Die Strömms kicked in with their genre-bending Celtic cowpunk track Anthem for a Weary Soul.
From Qatar to Marseille, and Further
Mike Stollen, the prolific Portuguese artist living in Qatar, continues his one-track-per-week adventure. This week: All I Know. He was followed by Streams13 from Marseille with Sun (released May 19), and then Orage, an all-female German group, illuminating us with Light in the Dark. Jay El Dee from Wisconsin wrapped up the sequence with Turning Away, a heartfelt piece echoing the emotional stylings of early Sia.
Between the Zoo and the Stars
J&M Band brought a touch of irony and critique with Figure You Out, continuing the reflection begun in their 2024 EP Party Animals. As Marco Nardini once told us in the May 9th newsletter, the album likens our social structures to a zoo, only to discover we’re the ones behind the glass.
Then came Black Earth, a standout piece composed by Belgian artist SÆ after the 2021 floods in Liège, Belgium. Her instrumental found new voice in a collaboration with Embracing Discomfort from Las Vegas, who imagined astronauts finding hope among survivors in a lost ship, a poetic tale of rebuilding and resilience.
World Premieres & Warm Goodbyes
Gregory Kodric returned with his latest song Over You Now, a melodic gem created in collaboration with Florxnce and Linkii. It flowed into the world premiere of Someday In Your Life by Blair Sparrow from Nova Scotia, a one-man-band talent who writes, composes, and produces all on his own. The track dropped that very Friday, June 13th.
As the final breeze of music passed, a few family photos fluttered beneath the fan. It had been nearly an hour. And I, your host, felt once again reminded why we gather in this indie lounge week after week: to remember that trying, musically, emotionally, imperfectly, is everything.
Thank you to all listeners, friends, and artists who keep sending songs, feedback, and support. And to OTAT247 family, for the technical magic and the gentle care behind the scenes.
We ended with three powerful closing tracks, each a world of its own:
- The Immaculate Crows – Van Gogh
- Bruach – The Big Heid
- Like Sorrow – The Harrowing
Let them carry you into the weekend, wherever your path leads next.
